Yankees' Anthony Volpe officially cracks Opening Day roster

The New York Yankees announced that shortstop Anthony Volpe has officially made the team's Opening Day roster.

What It Means:

Volpe entered the spring as an underdog to make the Opening Day roster, competing with teammate Oswald Peraza for the team's starting shortstop job. The 21-year-old rose to the challenge throughout spring training, and ultimately won the competition in the final days of the offseason. Aaron Boone said Monday that the young shortstop is likely to hit ninth in their order to open the season.

Volpe, one of the top prospects in baseball this offseason, posted an impressive 1.064 OPS in 60 plate appearances this spring, with 3 home runs and 5 stolen bases to boot.
