Outlook remains unclear for Rays' Brad Boxberger (oblique)

Tampa Bay Rays pitcher Brad Boxberger (oblique) "will have a better sense of a timetable after the first week or so," wrote Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times.

What It Means:

Oblique injuries generally take anywhere from four to eight weeks to heal, meaning Boxberger could be out of action until at least July -- if not longer. His 2016 season has not been a particularly cheery affair. He missed the first eight weeks of the campaign after undergoing core muscle surgery in the spring, then returned on Tuesday only to be lifted again with the oblique injury. Unfortunately, yesterday's damage occurred on the same side as the surgery.

Boxberger allowed two runs in just 2/3 of an inning before getting hurt. The 28-year-old had 41 saves in 69 appearances during the 2015, blowing six opportunities across 63 innings of work. Alex Colome is entrenched as the Rays' closer.
