Ketel Marte moving to Diamondbacks bench Thursday afternoon
Arizona Diamondbacks second baseman Ketel Marte is not in the lineup for Thursday afternoon's series finale against right-hander Josiah Gray and the Washington Nationals.
The Diamondbacks are giving Marte a breather after he went 3-for-4 with a double, a walk, and 2 runs scored on Wednesday. Josh Rojas will cover the keystone and hit sixth while Pavin Smith will move into the leadoff role. Emmanuel Rivera will bat second and Corbin Carroll will hit third.
Per numberFire's MLB Heat Map, the Diamondbacks' implied total is 4.62 and the game total is 8.5. Gray has a career-best 3.09 ERA this season, but his 4.49 xERA is actually higher than last year (4.25). The 25-year-old is also on pace for career-worst strikeout (19.0%) and walk (11.4%) rates. Rojas has a $2,800 salary on Thursday and is numberFire's third-best point-per-dollar value among projected batters.
