Royals request release waivers on Omar Infante

The Kansas City Royals have requested release waivers on infielder Omar Infante.

What It Means:

The Royals designated Infante for assignment last week, and considering what is remaining on his contract, it's almost a certainty he'll pass through waivers unclaimed and become a free agent on Thursday. Infante is owed $7.75 million for the rest of this season, and another $10 million next season, in addition to a $2 million buyout for the 2018 season, all of which the Royals are responsible for.

It's understandable why the Royals don't think Infante is worthy of a roster spot and instead are choosing to eat his contract. He slashed .239/.279/.321 without a home run and just a .261 wOBA in 149 plate appearances this season. His wOBA was somehow worse last season (.238) in 455 plate appearances.
