Russell Martin sitting Tuesday for Blue Jays
Toronto Blue Jays catcher Russell Martin is not in the starting lineup Tuesday against the Kansas City Royals.
R.A. Dickey is on the mound for Toronto and he's always caught by Josh Thole (who's hitting ninth Tuesday), so Martin's absence is not surprising. Martin is struggling this season, hitting just .222 with 79 strikeouts in 72 games played, although his strikeout percentage (9.7) is actually the lowest it's been since 2006, his rookie season.
Martin's overall slash this season is .222/.312/.335 with seven home runs and a .288 wOBA in 267 plate appearances. Our models project his struggles to continue over the rest of the season, forecasting a slash of .225/.314/.378 with seven home runs and a .304 wOBA.
