Koji Uehara

Red Sox could get Koji Uehara (pectoral) back next Monday

Boston Red Sox reliever Koji Uehara (pectoral) could be activated from the disabled list as soon as next Monday.

What It Means:

This is great news for Uehara. On Monday, he threw 20 pitches to live hitters during a simulated workout. He is still scheduled for two more upcoming bullpen sessions, but things are progressing in the right direction. A pectoral strain has kept Uehara out since July 20, and his return would serve as a huge boost to the back-end of the bullpen for the Red Sox.

Uehara owns a 3.44 xFIP and an impressive 35.2 strikeout percentage (league average is 21.0 percent) in 36 innings this season. We currently project him to record a 4.09 ERA and a 1.14 WHIP over the remaining course of the year (roughly 4 1/3 innings pitched).
