Padres release Alexei Ramirez
The San Diego Padres have released shortstop Alexei Ramirez.
Ramirez is still owed $3 million for this year and the Padres will also be on the hook for a $1 million buyout of Ramirez's option for 2017. Luis Sardinas has been playing well lately and he will man shortstop for the Padres down the stretch.
Ramirez has not played well this season with a .240/.275/.330 slash line and a .261 wOBA across 444 plate appearances. He has five homers, 33 runs scored and 41 RBI's on the year.
