James Kaprielian may join Yankees' rotation in 2017
New York Yankees starting pitching prospect James Kaprielian could join the major league rotation at some point during the 2017 season, manager Joe Girardi indicated Friday.
Kaprielian, the club's top pitching prospect, missed nearly all of the 2017 season due to a flexor strain. The 23-year-old was limited to just three starts at High-A Tampa in 2016 and could return there to begin the 2017 campaign. He still isn't someone worth targeting in redraft leagues as even if he makes a spot start or two, his impact would be minimal. His impact would likely displace one of the back-end starters like Chad Green if they were to flop badly.
Kaprielian pitched 45 innings between the High-A Florida State League and Arizona Fall League last year. He assembled a combined 27.3 percent strikeout rate and 6.3 percent walk rate in that span, as well as a 3.20 ERA.
