Jeanmar Gomez may not be Phillies' closer for long
Philadelphia Phillies closer Jeanmar Gomez is set to meet with manager Pete Mackanin Monday after giving up three runs in a blown save against the Washington Nationals on Sunday.
"I'll have something for you tomorrow. I need to talk with him," Mackanin responded on Sunday when asked about Gomez's job security. The 29-year-old right-hander already didn't have the strongest grasp on closing duties, so we could see Hector Neris take over the Phillies' ninth-inning man as early as Monday.
Through three appearances this season, Gomez has made one save while recording an abysmal 15.00 ERA and allowing five hits, five runs, and two bombs. He's struck out four (15.8 percent) and walked one (7.4 percent) over three total innings.
