Josh Hamilton hurts knee, released by the Rangers

The Texas Rangers have released outfielder Josh Hamilton after he injured his right knee while recovering from left knee surgery.

What It Means:

Hamilton was in minor league spring training camp when he hurt his right knee. He will require another surgery -- his fifth in the past 15 months -- and the Rangers' release likely means the end of the 35-year-old's major league playing career. Hamilton last played in a big-league game in 2015.

The 2010 AL MVP likely finishes his career with 200 home runs, 70 RBI's, and a .290 batting average in 4,350 plate appearances over nine seasons.
