Rangers make Cole Hamels (oblique) a late scratch on Tuesday
Texas Rangers starting pitcher Cole Hamels has been scratched from his scheduled start Tuesday night versus the Houston Astros due to oblique tightness.
Alex Claudio stepped in on short notice to make his first MLB start. Hamels has been the picture of health in his career, logging seven consecutive seasons with 200-plus innings. However, oblique strains are tough injuries and could force the Rangers pitcher onto the 10-day disabled list.
Hamels owns a 2-0 record in five starts with a 3.03 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 15 strikeouts in 32 2/3 innings.
