Giants hope Mark Melancon (elbow) will be back May 16
San Francisco Giants manager Bruce Bochy said he's optimistic reliever Mark Melancon will be able to return from the 10-day disabled list when first eligible on May 16.
Melancon has been dealing with a mild right pronator strain near his pitching elbow for a couple of weeks now, so the Giants are hoping that some extended rest will get the veteran right-hander back to form. Per Bochy, Derek Law will lead a closer committee for San Francisco in the meantime.
Melancon has six saves in eight chances this season while recording a 2.53 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and 22.7 strikeout percentage in 10 2/3 innings.
