Mariners fall as Edwin Diaz blows third game of season
Seattle Mariners reliever Edwin Diaz allowed two runs in the ninth to blow his third game of the season on Wednesday in a 5-4 loss to the Philadelphia Phillies.
Diaz relinquished a 4-3 lead by giving up a solo home run in the top of the ninth before a walk and a balk led to a go-ahead RBI single. Despite allowing six runs in his last 1 1/3 innings, Mariners manager Scott Servais says Diaz will hang onto closing duties for now.
The 23-year-old right-hander owns a 3.77 ERA, 1.29 WHIP, and 30.1 strikeout percentage (K%) while going 12-for-15 on save chances in 31 innings this season. numberFire's models project him for a 3.31 ERA, 1.17 WHIP, and 30.4 K% with another 15 saves over the remainder of the year.
