Athletics mulling change at closer

Oakland Athletics manager Bob Melvin is considering a change at closer, believes Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle.

What It Means:

This comes after Santiago Casilla's blown save and loss against the Toronto Blue Jays on Wednesday, leaving him with a 4.66 ERA in 36 2/3 innings (39 appearances) this season. If Melvin does decide to make a switch, Blake Treinen seems to be the favorite for ninth-inning duties in Oakland.

For the time being, numberFire's models project Casilla to pick up 11 more saves over 23 2/3 remaining innings this year while improving to a 3.06 ERA down the stretch.
