Marlins' Edinson Volquez to undergo Tommy John surgery

Miami Marlins pitcher Edinson Volquez is scheduled to undergo Tommy John surgery on Friday, according to the Sun Sentinel's Tim Healey.

What It Means:

Volquez was placed on the 10-day disabled list with a left knee injury back in early July. The discomfort continued and manager Don Mattingly had earlier stated that Volquez is "definitely" out for the year. While Volquez will remain out for the year, it's unlikely he pitches at all in 2018 with a recovery time of 12-to-15 months. This will be Volquez' second Tommy John surgery and could end his run with the Marlins.

In his first and only season with Miami, Volquez went 4-8 with a 4.34 FIP and 81 strikeouts across 92 1/3 innings of work.
