San Francisco Giants infielder Conor Gillaspie has been designated for assignment.
What It Means:
Gillaspie has turned in a dismal .163/.218/.288 slash in 87 plate appearances (44 games) this season, so it's not surprising to see him removed from the 40-man roster. Look for Ryder Jones to see the majority of starts at third base for the Giants. Pablo Sandoval may factor in a bit as well, while Christian Arroyo (broken hand) could potentially return in September.
