Washington's Max Scherzer (neck) scratched from Friday's start
Washington Nationals starting pitcher Max Scherzer (neck) has been scratched from Friday's start against the San Diego Padres.
Scherzer is dealing with renewed soreness in his neck, albeit on the other side than when he was forced to leave his August 1 start after one inning with neck spasms. Matt Grace will start in his place, giving the Padres' bats a boost on Friday.
Scherzer was projected, by our models, for a 2.96 ERA, 1.04 WHIP, and 56 strikeouts in 54 2/3 innings pitched the rest of the season, before the injury.
