Justin Masterson

Masterson returns with five strong innings

Justin Masterson held the Rays in check Sunday afternoon in his first start after displacing Joe Kelly in the Red Sox rotation. Masterson went five innings, allowing one (unearned) run, five hits, and struck out six.

What It Means:

Masterson had a rough go of it before he got injured, as his ERA is still 5.58 after his good start on Sunday. His xFIP is 4.71 with a WHIP of 1.59, and he's only striking out six batters per nine innings, so it's safe to say that you can't judge him solely off of yesterday's start. He will have a home start against the Astros July 4th weekend. Before doing anything with him in fantasy, see how he fares in that start.
