Angels to use committee at closer for rest of season
Los Angeles Angels manager Mike Scioscia said he'll use a committee of closers over the final week of the regular season.
Regular closer Huston Street suffered a groin strain Saturday, while Joe Smith is unavailable because of an ankle injury. The candidates to close include Trevor Gott, Fernando Salas, Mike Morin, and Jose Alvarez.
Street had taken a step back this year with a 4.15 xFIP, but it's still a big loss for a team given their situation. The Angels hold 29.6 percent playoff odds entering the final week of the season. If it's a tight game late, the Angels could find themselves in a difficult spot.
