Rays' Jose De Leon to undergo Tommy John for torn UCL
Tampa Bay Rays starting pitcher Jose De Leon will undergo Tommy John surgery to repair a torn UCL and will miss the 2018 season.
De Leon pitched just 41 innings last year due to right elbow tendinitis, as well as a flexor strain earlier in the season. The 25-year-old right-hander hasn't been able to throw more than 115 innings in any season since the Dodgers drafted him in 2013 due to multiple injuries.
De Leon has recorded a 6.86 ERA, 1.68 WHIP, and 17.9 strikeout percentage across 19 2/3 major league innings while going 3-0 in four starts.
