Padres designate Chase Headley for assignment
San Diego Padres third baseman Chase Headley has been designated for assignment.
Headley moved into a reserve role in favor of the younger Christian Villanueva at third. The club really could no longer justify keeping him on board, but there's a chance a contender picks him up for some depth in the infield. Cory Spangenberg was recalled to take his roster spot.
On the year, Headley is hitting just .115 with 0 homers and 4 RBI in 60 plate appearances.
