Astros decline club option on Chad Qualls

The Houston Astros declined pitcher Chad Qualls' $3.5 million club option for 2016.

What It Means:

Qualls will receive a $250,000 buyout from the Astros and become a free agent.

Qualls pitched 49.1 innings this season, striking out almost one hitter an inning -- his 8.39 K/9 was the highest since 2008. His 4.38 ERA looks worse than it perhaps should have been, as his xFIP was just 2.99, 23rd best among relievers. The 37 year-old showed he still has something left in the tank and shouldn't have a problem finding a job in 2016.
