Christian Villanueva lands on Padres' disabled list with finger fracture
San Diego Padres third baseman Christian Villanueva is on the 10-day disabled list, retroactive to August 22, with a fractured right middle finger.
Villanueva suffered the injury while attempting to field a hard ground ball at second base on Tuesday. He's expected to miss at least 3 weeks but it's possible the Padres keep him out for the rest of the year. Carlos Asuaje was recalled from Triple-A El Paso in a corresponding roster move, while Cory Spangenberg drew a second consecutive start at third base on Thursday versus the Colorado Rockies.
Villanueva was averaging 8.1 FanDuel points per game this season, while slashing .248/.303/.401 with 7 home runs, 24 RBI, 6 steals, and 31 runs scored across 384 plate appearances.
