Giants sign Kyle Blanks to minor-league deal

The San Francisco Giants have agreed to a one-year minor-league contract with Kyle Blanks, according to multiple news outlets.

What It Means:

John Shea of the San Francisco Chronicle was the first to break the news that the two parties were nearing an agreement. The deal is expected to be of the minor league variety, with an invite to spring training. Blanks is coming off of a pair of Achilles surgeries, but if he's healthy, it's a nice little roll of the dice by the Giants.

Blanks was limited to just 71 plate appearances this past season, but he performed well in his limited opportunity. He hit .313/.352/.522 with three home runs and a .382 wOBA. The Giants are desperate for offensive help at the corner outfield positions. Their wOBA among left fielders this season was .309 while it was .323 among right fielders.
