3 NBA Player Prop Bets to Target on Thursday 1/9/20

Can Derrick Rose continue his red-hot play against the Cleveland Cavaliers? What prop bets do our models like for tonight's NBA slate?

Player props can be useful in a variety of ways, from taking advantage of them straight up (to the tune of cold hard cash), to measuring a player's potential to produce in daily fantasy basketball.

While you can use those odds in fantasy, you can also utilize our fantasy projections and a variety of other tools to help make money on betting everyday player props.

For the purposes of this article, we are using the odds provided at FanDuel Sportsbook to pinpoint three spots where value can be had on a player's stat line, scoring, or even shot type.

Please note that betting lines and our game projections may change throughout the day after this article is published.

Russell Westbrook, Over 40.5 Points + Rebounds + Assists and Over 24.5 Points

Tonight is the biggest night of the season for Russell Westbrook, as he returns to Oklahoma City Thunder for the first time since playing the first 11 years of his career there. It's bound to be an emotional night, and the crowd will be full of life for "Russell Westbrook Appreciation Day." He will likely be the first player to get a statue and his jersey retired by the franchise, so expect his killer attitude to show for this one. His over/under for points, rebounds, and assists is a modest 40.5, while his point total is 24.5. Westbrook has recorded 24 points or more and over 40 combined points, rebounds, and assists in six of his last eight games. I like both of those in what will be a memorable night for the 2016-17 MVP.

Westbrook has had six triple-doubles this season, and over his last five games he's averaged 25.8 points, 7.6 rebounds, and 5.8 assists. He sat last night in the first of a back-to-back for the Rockets, as they likely wanted him 100% for the matchup with his former team. Westbrook is projected to record 23.6 points, 7.4 rebounds, and 7.3 assists tonight, but I like him to triple-double or at least come close to it.

Derrick Rose, Over 20.5 Points

Derrick Rose has had three-straight games of 22 or more points and suits up against the Cleveland Cavaliers for the second straight matchup between the Cavs and the Detroit Pistons. On Tuesday, Rose connected for the game-winning floater and finished with 24 points, 4 rebounds, and 7 assists. The Pistons are still without many of their starters, which has given Rose a significant boost in playing time and statistics across the board. Rose is averaging 17.5 points, 5.8 assists, and 2.3 rebounds to go along with the league's 22nd-best player efficiency rating of 21.92.

Rose has scored 20 or more in five of his last six games. I would back Rose to go over against the Cavaliers, and consider his over 28.5 for total points, rebounds, and assists as well. Our model predicts Rose to record 20.2 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 2.7 rebounds.
