The Emerald Coast Classic does not boast the best field of the weekend, but the championship game could be an interesting matchup for true college basketball fans.
Jamie Dixon continues his fixer-upper project in his second year at TCU and unlike last year, the Horned Frogs will not be sneaking up on anyone. TCU finished last season with a 24-15 record and claimed the NIT title by throttling Georgia Tech in the championship game. TCU added a solid recruiting class to a team returning their top six scorers.
Replacing Melo Trimble was the task for Maryland this season, and they have gotten some good contributions to get out to a 5-0 start, including a 14-point victory over Butler as part of the Gavitt Tipoff Games. Junior guards Anthony Cowan and Kevin Huerter have led the way thus far for the Terps as they hope to not miss a beat without Trimble.
