Week 5 FanDuel NFL Tournament Pivots
Running Back
Chalk:
Le'Veon Bell and Ezekiel Elliott both find themselves in beautiful game scripts this week and are sure to be highly sought-after options. Todd Gurley actually saw his price drop from Week 4 to 5 and is in line to be a fairly chalky play. With Matt Forte out, Bilal Powell is also likely to be popular.
Pivots:
Jay Ajayi, $7,300 (vs. Tennessee Titans): The Miami Dolphins have scored a combined six points in the past two games, a stretch during which Jay Ajayi has scored 9.4 FanDuel points. Combine that with the fact that he may still be dealing with a knee issue and nobody is going to want to touch him this week.
While Ajayi is a terrifying play, he definitely has the upside to change the landscape of tournaments at miniscule ownership. The line in this game isn't set, but if Marcus Mariota ends up sitting, Miami could see a big increase in time of possession, which could give Ajayi more touches as they control the game. If he gets fed the way he was in Week 1 (30 touches for 126 yards), Ajayi could put up huge numbers against a Tennessee Titans defense ranked 29th against the run, according to our metrics.
Christian McCaffrey, $6,200 (at Detroit Lions): It was a bit disappointing to not see Christian McCaffrey be a bigger part of the Carolina Panthers blow-up performance last week, but the rookie continued to separate himself from Jonathan Stewart in terms of playing time, out-snapping the veteran 48 to 28. He also saw six targets and remains atop the team leaderboard for targets.
While the Detroit Lions have looked much improved defensively, they have appeared a bit vulnerable to opposing backs over the past two weeks. In Week 3, Devonta Freeman totaled 138 yards and a touchdown and Dalvin Cook was on his way to a big game in Week 4 before leaving with an injury, putting up 74 yards and a score on just 27 snaps.
McCaffrey is a risky play, but his salary has come down and he honestly profiles very similarly to Powell -- who is more expensive and will be much more popular -- from a usage standpoint.
