3 Fantasy Football Tight End Streaming Options for Week 14

The tight end position in 2019 features distinct tiers. It's headlined by the elite trio of Travis Kelce, George Kittle, and Zach Ertz. Behind them is a young trio of promising options who many gamers drafted expecting them to take a leap forward this year in the form of O.J. Howard. Evan Engram, and Hunter Henry.

Things haven't gone according to plan with some breakout candidates, but Darren Waller and Mark Andrews have helped add some talent to the position. Still, tight end continues to leave something to be desired. Whether you entered the year planning to stream or have been disappointed by the option you drafted, I've got you covered. Below, there are three widely available options for streamers for Week 10..

Darren Fells, Houston Texans

Yahoo Ownership: 38%

Darren Fells isn't a high-volume option. He's reached or exceeded six targets in only three games this season, and he's been targeted three times or fewer in the other nine games. He's yet to surpass 70 receiving yards in a game, and he's finished a game with more than 45 receiving yards only three times.

Where Fells thrives, however, is in scoring territory. He's scored seven touchdowns, and all have been from the red zone. Deshaun Watson has thrown 44 passes in the red zone and DeAndre Hopkins has tossed a couple on trick plays, too, and Fells leads the team with 11 targets. He's reeled in nine receptions on his red zone targets, and seven of those grabs have gone for touchdowns.

The Houston Texans host the Denver Broncos this week. Denver's allowed just three touchdown receptions to tight ends this year, per Pro-Football-Reference. The matchup doesn't inspire much confidence in Fells reaching the end zone, but his red zone volume and the betting data outweigh the matchup concerns. The Texans are 9.5-point favorites with an implied total of 25.5 points, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.

Fells is a touchdown-or-bust option. Typically, touchdown-or-bust tight end streamers are low-ceiling plays. That's not necessarily the case with Fells. His hefty red zone usage has resulted in a pair of two-touchdown games this year.

David Njoku, Cleveland Browns

Yahoo Ownership: 29%

Last week, I suggested streaming a banged up Delanie Walker because he seemed to be trending in the right direction. He promptly hit injured reserve days later. David Njoku is on injured reserve, but he was designated for return prior to Week 11. He wasn't active for either Cleveland's Week 12 game against the Dolphins or their Week 13 game in Pittsburgh. Pete Smith of Sports Illustrated points out that if Njoku isn't activated this week, he'll revert to injured reserve.

There's a legitimate risk I could be suggesting another tight end streamer who ends up on injured reserve, but, for Njoku's part, he says he's healthy enough to play and has participated in practice.

The uncertainty surrounding Njoku's availability makes him something of a specialty streamer. Rolling the dice on him is a solid gambit for gamers who are on bye in their fantasy playoffs and looking ahead a week as well as those who have the roster spot to stream Njoku and another emergency option for this week with the chance to get ahead of the curve for next week.

The Cleveland Browns whopping 10-point favorites against the visiting Bengals in Week 14 and have an implied total of 25.25 points. Their stellar implied total provides anyone in Cleveland's offense some touchdown upside, including Njoku. The matchup is solid to good, too. The Bengals rank in the middle of the pack in receiving production yielded to tight ends, but they're a poor pass defense overall as we rank them as the fifth-worst pass defense.

I noted Njoku has look-ahead streaming appeal because he has the holy grail of fantasy matchups in Week 15. He and the Browns head to Arizona to face the Cardinals in Week 15. The Cards have coughed up the second-most receptions (77) and yielded the most receiving yards (953) and receiving touchdowns (13) to the position. Coming out of their bye last week, the Cardinals were pantsed by Tyler Higbee for 7 receptions, 107 receiving yards, and 1 touchdown on 8 targets. Njoku's a decent-yet-risky streamer this week with a little forward thinking trickery in mind.

Mike Gesicki, Miami Dolphins

Yahoo Ownership: 19%

Mike Gesicki was the lone bright spot among last week's trio of touted streamers at tight end. He was a hell of a bright spot, though. Gesicki reeled in 5 of 7 targets for 79 receiving yards and a touchdown. It was Gesicki's second straight game reaching paydirt, and it was his fifth straight game with a half-dozen or more targets.

When suggesting him as a steaming option last week, I pointed to his steady diet of targets and air yards as reasons to believe he'd deliver a solid fantasy performance. The targets were there again, and so were his air yards. Gesicki accounted for 21.7 percent of Miami's air yards, according to NFL Next Gen Stats. He's accounted for more than 20 percent of Miami's air yards in three of his last four games.

DeVante Parker has stolen the show of late, but Gesicki's emerged in the wake of Preston Williams' season-ending injury in Week 9 as a viable second fiddle in Miami's passing attack. His slot in the pass-catching pecking order bodes well for his outlook the rest of the year, including this week on the road against the Jets.

The Jets have been tough on tight ends this year, but they're a bad pass defense overall. We ranked them as the ninth-worst pass D. Things could be worse for their lackluster pass defense this week.

If Jamal Adams is forced to sit this game out, that's a damaging blow to the Jets' pass defense. Furthermore, it could open up the middle of the field for Gesicki to pick them apart. Gesicki's my favorite streaming option of the three featured in this space.
