Monday Night Football Preview: Can the Giants Play Spoiler Against the Eagles Tonight?

Can the New York Giants and Eli Manning take down the Philadelphia Eagles in a key NFC East showdown?

This week's edition of Monday Night Football features the 2-10 New York Giants traveling to Seattle to face the 5-7 Philadelphia Eagles. In a competitive NFC East rivalry game, this matchup brings explosive potential.

Losers of eight straight games, the Giants fell to the Green Bay Packers by a score of 31-13 last week. On the other side, the Eagles also continued their three-game losing streak after falling to the Miami Dolphins 37-31. With both teams desperate for a win, here are a few matchups likely to influence the outcome of tonight's game.

Quarterback Breakdown

With little hope the rest of the way, the Giants also lost their signal caller Daniel Jones last week. This week, the Giants return to Eli Manning as the starter, hoping for a vintage performance. Prior to his mid-season benching, Manning performed horribly under center for the Giants. In two starts, Manning recorded a QBR of 29.8, with a 2:2 touchdown to interception ratio. Lucky for Manning and the Giants, the Eagles rank 23rd in pass defense, according to our schedule-adjusted metrics. Despite struggling in prior performances, the matchups opens a window for Manning and the Giants to move the ball here.

One the Eagle's side, Carson Wentz finds a strong matchup against the Giants' 27th ranked pass defense. However, Wentz remains up-and-down as a signal caller this season. Currently, Wentz ranks outside the top-20 in completion percentage (62.4-percent) and Net Yards per Attempt (5.73). In recent weeks, Wentz has shown improvement, throwing for at least 250 yards in each of his last two games. With Alshon Jeffery back healthy, Wentz should find favorable matchups throughout tonight's game.
