3 Fantasy Football Tight End Streamer Options for Week 5

Tyler Conklin is available in plenty of leagues and plays a solid role for the Jets. Which waiver-wire tight ends can be of good use in Week 5?

The tight end position isn't overflowing with depth. Instead, it's still top-heavy. So, those of you who kicked the can down the road at the position instead of investing in an elite tight end might dabble in the streamer waters. Some of you came out of drafts with the intention of streaming.

No matter the path to this point, those who need help identifying widely available tight ends to help their fantasy squad each week have found the correct spot. This is your weekly home for streaming options. Here are three choices for this week.

Tyler Conklin, New York Jets

Yahoo! Roster Percentage: 42%

Tyler Conklin is the real deal. He's the TE8 in point-per-reception (PPR) scoring, and the first data point with Zach Wilson starting for the New York Jets was encouraging.

According to Pro Football Focus (PFF), Conklin was tied for third in routes (29), fourth in targets (five), tied for second in receptions (three), and second in receiving yards (52) for the Jets in Week 3.

Conklin was also moved around the alignment. Per PFF, he played three passing snaps wide, 14 in the slot, and 19 inline. Conklin also had a rock-solid 7.4-yard average depth of target (aDOT) last week. So, the underlying information was exciting.

Moreover, Conklin's breakout isn't entirely out of nowhere. First, he had career-highs across the board in 2022. Second, the learning curve is steep for tight ends. So, late-bloomers aren't unusual. Conklin also has an interesting athletic profile, especially his burst and agility score, catch radius, and SPARQ-X score.

Finally, per Pro Football Reference, The Miami Dolphins are tied for the second-most receptions (28) and have allowed the fifth-most receiving yards (292) to tight ends this season. So, Conklin is firmly in the top-12 tight ends again this week.

Logan Thomas, Washington Commanders

Yahoo! Roster Percentage: 24%

Unfortunately, Logan Thomas hasn't popped in the box score. Still, he's in the top-12 tight ends for routes (125). Thomas has also been targeted 20 times. So, while his 13 receptions and 106 receiving yards have left a lot to be desired, he's been heavily involved immediately after suffering a season-ending knee injury last December.

Thus, it's easy to dream about Thomas playing better as he's further removed from the injury if he maintains his hefty route participation. Thomas might also be asked to do more in the short-term. Rookie wideout Jahan Dotson could miss time with a hamstring injury.

Additionally, the matchup is good for Thomas this week. The Tennessee Titans have allowed the fourth-most receiving yards (293) to tight ends this year and were just lit up for 11 receptions for 180 yards and two touchdowns on 11 targets in Week 4 by Mo Alie-Cox, Kylen Granson, and Jelani Woods. So, the combination of Thomas's underlying data and the matchup are enough to push Thomas into streamer territory.

Juwan Johnson, New Orleans Saints

Yahoo! Roster Percentage: 1%

Juwan Johnson has been a mainstay in this piece. Yet, that's a product of the position. Johnson has had multiple receptions in three games and had at least 33 receiving yards in three contests. Further, Johnson has had at least four targets three times this year.

Johnson has also had steady involvement as a route-runner, running at least 18 in every game for the New Orleans Saints. He also didn't disappear with Andy Dalton making a spot start in London this week. Instead, Johnson was targeted on 22.2 percent of his 18 routes and had an encouraging 10.5-yard aDOT. As a result, Johnson shouldn't be negatively impacted by the fluid quarterback situation on the Saints.

And, of course, Johnson's matchup is the primary draw for using him this week. The Seattle Seahawks were barbecued by T.J. Hockenson for eight receptions, 179 receiving yards, and two touchdowns on 12 targets in Week 4. No, Johnson isn't the same caliber player as Hockenson. However, the Detroit Lions were without Amon-Ra St. Brown, D.J. Chark, and D'Andre Swift, and the Seahawks didn't have any answers for Detroit's most prominent pass-catcher.

Additionally, the Seahawks have allowed the most receiving yards (359) to tight ends this season at a blistering 17.95 yards per reception. They've also coughed up three touchdown receptions. So, Johnson is a viable dart at tight end for gamers in need of help at the position.
