Mike Daniels lands four-year, $42-million extension with Packers

The Green Bay Packers signed defensive end Mike Daniels to a four-year, $42 million extension through 2019.

What It Means:

The deal includes a $12 million signing bonus and $22 million in the first 15 months. Daniels has recorded just four sacks this season, but he is a consistent disruptive force on the defensive line who lives in the opposing backfield. The deal deservedly makes Daniels the third-highest paid 3-4 defensive end in the league. Only 26, Daniels should still be near his prime when he is eligible for free agency again in 2020.

The Green Bay defense ranks 19th in Adjusted Defensive Net Expected Points (NEP) per play. They check in 18th in Adjusted Defensive Passing NEP per drop back and 24th in Adjusted Defensive Rushing NEP per play.
