Browns clean house, fire general manager Ray Farmer, as well

The Cleveland Browns fired general manager Ray Farmer.

What It Means:

Since being hired as the head of the personnel department ahead of the 2014 season, the Browns have posted 7-9 and 3-13 seasons, seemingly getting far worse in year two. Armed with two first-round picks in each of his two seasons, Farmer delivered cornerback Justin Gilbert, quarterback Johnny Manziel, nose tackle Danny Shelton, and offensive lineman Cam Erving. Gilbert is a certified bust, and there were whispers he may even be moved to wide receiver before those talks went away. Manziel has been a paparazzi punching bag and may never play another down for the Browns. Shelton and Erving each had rough rookie seasons that belie busts in waiting. Farmer also got in trouble with the league for texting coaches on the sideline during games.

The 2014 Browns ranked 6th in the league in Adjusted Defensive Passing Net Expected Points (NEP) and 25th in Adjusted Defensive Rushing NEP as a unit. They nose-dived in 2015, however, ranking 21st and 32nd in these metrics, respectively.
