Cam Newton (foot) reportedly cleared for practice, Panthers mum
Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton (foot) has been cleared to return to practice following the team's Week 7 bye, reports Adam Schefter of ESPN.
Panthers head coach Ron Rivera wouldn't confirm whether or not Newton will return next week. "Until he's 100 percent, we're not going to address it," Rivera said. "The young man has done everything we've asked. I'm not going to put pressure on him." Kyle Allen has gone 4-0 since taking over at quarterback in Week 2, so the Panthers aren't in any rush to get Newton back out there. They visit the San Francisco 49ers after the bye.
Newton completed 56.2 percent of his passes for 572 yards (6.4 per attempt) with 0 touchdowns and 1 interception in two games before going down. He also recorded negative-2 yards on 5 carries.
