Stephen Hill

Panthers' losing Stephen Hill in training camp was impactful

Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton said losing wide receiver Stephen Hill (ACL) in training camp was a "big deal" at his Wednesday press conference.

What It Means:

It's a surprising disclosure of Newton's feelings on a player who entered the NFL with big-time tools but fizzled out with the New York Jets before tearing his ACL in Panthers camp last summer. Hill is still only 24 years-old, turning 25 in April. A restricted free agent in 2016, the Panthers can retain Hill at the cheapest possible restricted free agent tender.

Hill's most recent regular season action came in 2013 with the New York Jets, where he posted 17.35 Reception Net Expected Points (NEP) and -28.15 Target NEP on 59 targets. These totals ranked 89th and 88th among the 89 receivers with at least 50 targets that season.
