Devonta Freeman

Falcons reportedly parting ways with Devonta Freeman

The Atlanta Falcons are releasing running back Devonta Freeman, reports Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

What It Means:

The move saves the Falcons $3.5 million against the salary cap. Freeman failed to clear 100 yards in any game last season as he regressed back to the level of inefficiency he displayed as a rookie. Freeman has been limited to just 16 combined appearances over the last two seasons due to multiple injuries. The Falcons may go with a two-man backfield committee of Ito Smith and Brian Hill next season. They could also add a piece through free agency or the draft.

Freeman averaged 12.0 FanDuel points and 76.1 offensive yards with 6 touchdowns in 14 games last season. He managed just a 29.4 success rate, compared to a 42.7 success rate for the rest of the Falcons' backfield.
