Lions let go team captain Devon Kennard
The Detroit Lions released linebacker Devon Kennard.
Kennard was a team captain coming off back-to-back 7.0-sack seasons, so this is a bit of a surprise. No Lions defender has played more snaps since 2018 than Kennard (1,718). He likely became expendable once the team came to terms with free agent Jamie Collins. The move saves the Lions $5.4 million against the salary cap. Kennard will turn 29 in June.
Kennard recorded 7.0 sacks, 9 tackles for loss, 2 fumbles recovered, 1 defensive touchdown, 15 quarterback hits, and 30 pressures last season. He struggled in pass coverage, giving up 2 touchdowns on 11-of-13 completions.
