Rams: Gerald Everett needs more opportunities

Los Angeles Rams tight end Gerald Everett needs to be utilized more, head coach Sean McVay said.

What It Means:

“Really, really excited about what Gerald Everett’s going to do,” McVay said. "I think Tyler Higbee did a phenomenal job, but I think Gerald Everett’s a guy that I’ve got to do a better job of utilizing his skill set because he’s a difference-maker. But he’s got to get the opportunities and I think that starts with some of the things I know I can do a better job of.” Everett averaged 3.7 catches and 40.6 yards with 2 touchdowns over the Rams' first nine games before a knee injury interfered. Higbee then went on to average 8.6 catches and 104.4 yards with 2 touchdowns over the final month of the season. It wouldn't be a surprise to see the Rams roll out more two-tight end sets next season, which would consequently impact the playing times of Robert Woods, Brandin Cooks, and/or Cooper Kupp. Everett, a 2017 second-round pick, turns 26 in June.

Despite missing three games, Everett set career-highs with 60 targets, 37 receptions, and 408 yards last season. His 6.8 yards per target was 19th out of 27 tight ends with at least 50 targets. Everett ranked 23rd in that same group in numberFire's advanced per-target receiving metric.
