Colts sign Trey Burton to one-year contract

The Indianapolis Colts have agreed to terms with tight end Trey Burton, according to Enter Sports Management. Burton will receive the veteran minimum from Indianapolis, in addition to $4 million from his former team, the Chicago Bears.

What It Means:

The 28-year-old has found a new team just 5 days after being released by the Bears. Burton will be reunited with Colt's head coach Frank Reich, who was the Eagles' offensive coordinator when Burton played for them back in 2016-17. During his 2017 season with Reich, Burton posted career-highs in reception percentage (72.7), yards per reception (10.8), and passer rating when targeted (135.1) (minimum 5 targets). In his two seasons in Reich's offense, Burton accumulated 61 catches on 91 targets for 587 yards and 6 touchdowns operating behind Zach Ertz. Colts' tight ends saw 30.3% of the team's targets last season.

Burton's career-high Pro Football Focus grade of 73.4 came during his 2017 season with the Eagles. This move follows the departure of Eric Ebron to the Steelers, who saw 36.9% of the Colts' tight end targets last season.
