Jamal Adams OUT

Jets reportedly exercising Jamal Adams' option

The New York Jets exercised the fifth-year option for safety Jamal Adams, reports Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News.

What It Means:

Adams is expressing his displeasure in not receiving a contract extension by skipping the voluntary virtual offseason program. Jets general manager Joe Douglas has said the team wants to keep Adams around long-term and he claimed last week that the two sides would discuss a new deal after the draft. The 24-year-old All-Pro is entering the final year of his rookie deal.

Adams set career-highs in sacks (6.5) and tackles for loss (10) last season. He also recorded 1 interception, 7 pass deflections, 2 forced fumbles, 1 fumble recovery, and 1 touchdown in 14 games. Adams finished as Pro Football Focus' fourth-best safety out of 71 to play at least 500 snaps. He's graded out as a top-four safety each of the past two seasons among safeties with 500-plus snaps.
