Jalen Hurd

49ers' Jalen Hurd "on pace" in recovery

San Francisco 49ers general manager John Lynch said wide receiver Jalen Hurd is "back to working out and on pace to make an impact this season."

What It Means:

Hurd was a dominant presence in his first preseason appearance, catching 3 passes for 31 yards and 2 touchdowns. Unfortunately, he suffered a serious back injury shortly thereafter that sidelined him for the entirety of the 2019 season and that reportedly prevented him from flying with the team to the Super Bowl. While it's great news that he has resumed working out, Lynch has also expressed that the team won't be "overly optimistic" about their 2019 third-rounder's prospects for the 2020 season.

Hurd, a college power-back-turned-wide-receiver prospect, has certainly flashed in his limited appearances at the next level, but back injuries are no laughing matter. He remains a solid stash in dynasty leagues as a dynamic contributor on one of the league's most creative offenses, but he'll face stiff competition for targets from George Kittle, Deebo Samuel and Brandon Aiyuk even if he is healthy for the 2020 season.
