Steelers tie up T.J. Watt through 2021
The Pittsburgh Steelers exercised linebacker T.J. Watt's fifth-year team option.
Watt is now officially under contract for the next two seasons. He led the league with 8 forced fumbles last season and recorded a career-high 14.5 sacks, finishing in the top-10 for the second straight year. Over the past two seasons, Watt is pacing all players with 14 forced fumbles and has the fourth-most sacks (27.5). The 25-year-old has quickly emerged as one of the best at his position.
Watt led the league in pressures (59) last season and ranked 2nd in pass-rushing productivity. He finished 3rd in quarterback hits (36) and 12th in tackles for loss (14). Pro Football Focus graded Watt as the top edge defender out of all players at the position with at least 100 snaps.
