Dwayne Haskins

Dwayne Haskins showed Washington enough to remain starter

Washington Redskins new head coach Ron Rivera said quarterback Dwayne Haskins showed enough as a rookie to prevent the team from spending the 2nd overall pick on Tua Tagovailoa.

What It Means:

"We just feel about the things we saw from Dwayne,ā€ Rivera said. ā€œI feel good enough about him that Iā€™m willing to take that chance, that opportunity.ā€ Haskins had a rough start as a rookie, with 3 touchdowns and 7 interceptions over his first seven appearances, but he showed improvement late. Over the final two contests, Haskins had 4 touchdowns and no interceptions with an average of 9.2 yards per attempt that would have been second-best in the league last year. Kyle Allen is second on the depth chart, though Rivera also didn't rule out the possibility of bringing in fellow former Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton.

Haskins averaged 11.4 FanDuel points over seven starts, which would have made him the QB37 last year. He showed a willingness to throw it long, ranking 13th in average depth of target (8.6 yards) out of 42 quarterbacks with at least 100 attempts.
