Ravens considered J.K. Dobbins a Day 1 value
Baltimore Ravens second-round rookie running back J.K. Dobbins carried a first-round grade on the team's draft board, per general manager Eric DeCosta.
DeCosta believes it would have been "irresponsible" for the Ravens to not select Dobbins in the second round. "My philosophy is talent wins," he explained. "If you have a running back who you think can be a dynamic player for you and you are a team who loves to run the football, to me it makes too much sense." The Ravens have seemingly upgraded a rushing unit that broke the NFL all-time single-season record with 3,296 yards last season. Mark Ingram may open the year as Baltimore's lead back, but Dobbins could force his way to the top of the depth chart by December.
Dobbins was a three-year starter at Ohio State who broke the school rushing record (2,003 yards) as a true junior last season. He averaged 6.7 yards per carry and found the end zone 21 times. Dobbins also led his draft class with 20 gains of 20-plus yards.
