Cowboys: Dak Prescott extension will happen

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott's long-term extension will "ultimately get done," according to executive vice president Stephen Jones.

What It Means:

“Obviously, it has no bearing on Dak," Jones said about the Cowboys signing Andy Dalton. "Dak is the quarterback of our franchise now, and for many years to come. We’ve gotta get his contract — we’ve gotta get over that hurdle. But we’ll do it, it’ll ultimately get done.” The two sides have until July 15 to agree on a long-term deal. Prescott, who turns 27 this summer, threw for 4,902 passing yards last season, good for second-most in the league and just one yard short of the Cowboys franchise record. He also threw the fourth-most touchdowns (30) in the NFL last season.

Dak averaged 21.8 FanDuel points (QB3) and 306.4 passing yards (8.2 yards per attempt) per game last season, with another 17.3 yards per game and 3 scores on the ground. He accumulated the second-most air yards (5,454) in the league and had the sixth-highest average depth of target (9.2) among 42 quarterbacks with 100-plus attempts.
