Niners' Jerick McKinnon 'appears to be making good progress'
According to Matt Maiocco and NBC Sports, San Francisco 49ers running back Jerick McKinnon "appears to be making good progress as he continues to rehab in his comeback attempt."
After missing extended time with an ACL injury, the 49ers' organization including general manager John Lynch remain positive about McKinnon's potential return to the field. “I think there’s always that critical last juncture of a rehab where you go from running straight ahead and even trying to simulate some of the cutting that goes on at that position, specifically,” said Lynch when asked about his running back's status. “Then, you go play football and it becomes much more reactive. And that’s where he struggled. He’s continued to put in work. There are some positive signs that we’re on a better track.”
If McKinnon can stay healthy, expect the 28-year old to play a passing situational role especially on third downs. On 191 career targets (3.29 per game), McKinnon has recorded 142 receptions for 984 yards, 5 touchdowns, and 53 first downs.
