Packers' Aaron Rodgers aiming to play "into his 40s"

Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers mentioned during an interview on Friday that he wants to play into his 40s.

What It Means:

Rodgers' first interview since the draft didn't disappoint, with the quarterback speaking about several topics. When asked about the Packers' decision to draft a quarterback in the first round, Rodgers said: "I think it was more the surprise of the pick based on my own feelings of wanting to play into my 40s and really the realization that it does change the controllables a little but because as much as I feel confident in my abilities and what I can accomplish, there are some new factors that are out of my control". Rodgers also mentioned that he realizes that his desire to remain with the same organization from start to finish may not be a reality at this point. His responses seemed to indicate that long-term, Rodgers is planning for a future beyond the Packers, and he feels the team is doing the same, but in the short-term, he is still their starter. Last season, Rodgers led a Packers' offense that finished the season ranked sixth, per numberFire's power rankings. He earned a grade of 81.2 from Pro Football Focus, ninth-best in the league.

Rodgers is the QB12 in numberFire's preseason fantasy rankings. Our models project him for 565 attempts, 4,197 yards, 27.78 touchdowns, and 11.9 interceptions this season.
