Mecole Hardman may be moved off Chiefs' return duties
Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Mecole Hardman may not continue his role as the team's primary returner, per special teams coach Dave Toub.
"I don’t want to lose him," Toub continued. "I think he’s just scratched the surface as a returner." Toub indicated Hardman is in line for a larger offensive role in his second season, which would limit his availability in the return game. He caught 26 passes on 41 targets for 538 yards and 6 touchdowns last season. The second-round pick paced all receivers with at least 25 catches in yards per catch (20.7) and all wideouts with at least 40 targets in yards per target (13.1). Hardman also excelled as a returner, finishing with the third-most kick return yards (704) and fifth-highest kick return average (26.1).
Hardman is the WR48 in numberFire's preseason fantasy rankings. Our models project him for 72.5 targets, 43.1 receptions, 631.1 yards, and 4.8 touchdowns.
