Jamal Adams, Jets contract talks hit snafu
The New York Jets and defensive back Jamal Adams have "reached an impasse in contract talks," reports ESPN's Rich Cimini.
The Jets want to wait on giving Adams a long-term extension, but he wants a new deal now. Per Cimini's sources, "the Adams camp is upset, claiming the Jets are dragging their feet." The possibility of trading Adams was even brought up, though it's not clear how serious it was. The Jets fielded trade offers for Adams at last year's deadline, a decision which upset the 24-year-old All-Pro. Adams set career-highs in sacks (6.5) and tackles for loss (10) last season.
numberFire's models project Adams for 2.1 interceptions, 6.0 pass deflections, and 4.3 sacks this season. Adams finished as Pro Football Focus' fourth-best safety out of 71 to play at least 500 snaps. He's graded out as a top-four safety each of the past two seasons among safeties with 500-plus snaps.
