Josh Jacobs facing competition for Raiders' passing-game work
Las Vegas Raiders running back Josh Jacobs will face competition for pass-catching work from Jalen Richard, writes ESPN.com's Paul Gutierrez.
Jacobs is locked in for early-down work, but Richard appears to have the edge in passing situations. Richard led the Raiders' backfield with 43 targets last season and DeAndre Washington was just behind him with 41 targets. Meanwhile, Jacobs saw 27 targets and none of them came after second down. Washington has since left for the Kansas City Chiefs, so Jacobs has a chance to absorb some of those looks. However, he may face competition from free-agent signing Devontae Booker and third-round rookie Lynn Bowden Jr.
numberFire's models actually expect Jacobs to be the leading receiver out of the Raiders' backfield in 2020. He's projected for 282.4 carries, 1,253.3 rushing yards, 209.8 receiving yards, 28.5 receptions (37.0 targets), and 11.5 touchdowns. Jacobs is the RB8 in our preseason fantasy rankings. He did lead both Richard and Washington in Reception Net Expected Points per reception last year.
