Zach Ertz expected to get Eagles' extension
Philadelphia Eagles tight end Zach Ertz could be a candidate for a contract extension this summer, writes Zach Berman of The Athletic.
The Eagles picked up Ertz's team option for 2021, so he's currently under contract for the next two seasons. An extension could lower Ertz's $12.5 million cap hit and create some financial flexibility elsewhere on the roster. His numbers dipped a little last year following a career campaign in 2018, but Ertz still led the Eagles in all major receiving categories. He averaged the fifth-most FanDuel points per game (11.4) among tight ends. The first-round selection of wide receiver Jalen Reagor and continued development of fellow tight end Dallas Goedert, along with the return of a healthy DeSean Jackson, could cut into Ertz's target share in 2020. He turns 30 in November.
Ertz is the TE5 in numberFire's preseason fantasy rankings. Our models expect him to lead all Eagles players again with 112.8 targets, 77.3 receptions, 734.8 yards, and 5.8 touchdowns.
